Shareholders in Anglo American PLC (LSE:AAL) and Teck Resources Ltd (TSX:TECK.B) have backed the proposed "merger of equals", paving the way for the creation of Anglo Teck.
Completion of the merger still remains subject to regulatory approvals in Canada and from authorities in other jurisdictions.
At its general meeting on 9 December 2025, Anglo American shareholders passed both the ordinary and special resolutions relating to the merger. Teck shareholders also approved the deal at a special meeting held the same day.
The new group will be headquartered in Canada and will be one of the five largest copper producers in the world, with more than 70% exposure to copper.
“We are extremely pleased to have received such strong support both from shareholders and stakeholders alike,” said Anglo American chief executive Duncan Wanblad.
“Today marks a major milestone towards forming Anglo Teck – a global critical minerals champion, headquartered in Canada, and a top five global copper producer.”
He said creating Anglo Teck is “set up to deliver outstanding value for shareholders of both companies – in the near term through a unique combination of industrial and other synergies, and in the longer term by applying proven capabilities to exceptional growth optionality.”
Wanblad said: “We are delighted with the clear endorsement from our shareholders to take this next strategic step to unlock outstanding value as Anglo Teck.”
