Critical Resources managing director Tim Wither talked with Proactive about the commencement of drilling at the Cap Burn Project in New Zealand’s Otago region.
Speaking live from site, Wither confirmed the start of a 10-hole scout program, targeting a one-kilometre strike along the Cap Burn Fault. “This is really a scout programme just to, one, get our eye in,” he said, adding that the program is leveraging updated geological models from the region.
This round of reverse circulation (RC) drilling will take place over 2–3 weeks. Wither noted that the site is located just 11 kilometres from the McRaes gold operation, a 10 million ounce camp.
He explained that drilling is stepping down plunge from earlier activity, which targeted a large arsenic-in-soil anomaly on flatter ground. The team is now testing a broader 10-kilometre prospective Cap Burn structure.
In addition to progress in New Zealand, Wither discussed Critical Resources’ recent strategic engagement of Canadian government relations firm Pathway Group. The move is aimed at supporting permitting and funding efforts for the company’s Mavis Lake Lithium Project in Ontario.
“The Pathway Group is helping promote and lift the presence of the Mavis Lake Project in Ontario and the wider Canadian region,” Wither said. He added that the support would assist in streamlining approvals and accessing funding.
The Mavis Lake project currently holds a resource of 8 million tonnes at just over 1% lithium oxide and is located near key infrastructure.
