Poundland to close over 100 stores as part of turnaround plan

Poundland will close more than 100 stores across the UK by early 2025 as it pushes ahead with a major restructuring effort aimed at stabilising the business.

The discount retailer confirmed on Friday that a further 14 shops will shut by early February, in addition to 19 closures already planned in the coming months.

These follow 57 stores that closed by the end of September and around 40 more currently winding down operations. Clearance sales of up to 40% are underway at affected locations, covering categories from groceries and household goods to clothing and beauty.

Many closures have been driven by landlords choosing not to renew leases, while others relate to the company’s decision to exit underperforming sites. Poundland expects its estate to shrink from approximately 800 outlets to between 650 and 700 once the process is complete.
