AMD’s Lisa Su rejects talk of an AI bubble as demand for compute surges

Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD, XETRA:AMD) chief executive Lisa Su pushed back firmly against the idea that artificial intelligence is heading for a dramatic correction, telling an audience in San Francisco that the sector’s momentum is too strong to be written off as hype.

Asked at WIRED’s Big Interview event whether she sees signs of a bubble, Su replied: “Emphatically, from my perspective, no.” She argued that adoption of AI is accelerating across almost every industry and that demand for the hardware required to train and run models remains intense.

Su leads Nvidia’s closest competitor in the AI chip race, a contest that hinges on scale. Nvidia is worth around $4.4 trillion, dwarfing AMD’s roughly $353 billion valuation, but AMD has been winning more attention as companies search for alternatives to Nvidia’s GPUs.

Su has made AI acceleration central to AMD’s strategy, with the company’s MI300 line now pitched directly at Nvidia’s top-end hardware.

Her comments underline how pivotal AMD has become to the future of AI infrastructure, even as Nvidia maintains a commanding share of the market.

Su said the breadth of real-world investment and deployment makes talk of a bubble premature, noting that companies across sectors are integrating AI into products, operations and research.

WIRED’s Big Interview series continues throughout the week with further discussions on the intersection of technology, power and culture.
