FI Joint Venture Pty Ltd director John Hebenton talked with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company’s progress on its Yogi Magnetite project and its goals for the next stage of development.
Speaking at the Resourcing Tomorrow 2025 conference, Hebenton noted that FIJV has already invested between $60 million and $70 million into the asset. The company is now seeking strategic investors to help move the project into production.
The Yogi Magnetite project, located approximately 250km east of Geraldton in Western Australia, has a JORC resource of around 700 million tonnes based on 60,000m of drilling. Hebenton highlighted that the project holds key approvals, including mining and environmental permits, water licenses, and port access.
He also pointed to nearby infrastructure, including an existing gas pipeline and proximity to a rail corridor.
FIJV is in discussions with the Western Australian government to establish a rail spur to connect the mine site to existing infrastructure. Hebenton explained, “The reason why they’re interested is that it’s not just a single-use rail line, but it’ll be opening up for multi-use of operation.”
Looking ahead, Hebenton said the main milestone for the company is securing rail access, which would support efficient and cost-effective logistics. “All the other aspects of the project are ready to go,” he added.
