Estrella Resources Ltd (ASX:ESR) managing director Chris Daws talked with Proactive about the company’s expanding exploration footprint in Timor-Leste and the results of its drilling and IP survey programs.
Daws explained that Estrella is a “first mover” in the country, having acquired tenements 1, 2 and 3 in early 2024 following the introduction of Timor-Leste’s new mining code. Within six months, the company discovered high-grade manganese outcrops and began drilling at Ira Miri, near the Com port — a key logistical advantage for the bulk commodity.
“We’ve drilled some exceptional manganese intercepts,” Daws said. “The very first hole was eight metres at 53% — absolutely sensational.”
The company recently completed an IP survey at Ira Miri, which confirmed the ability to detect manganese targets via geophysical methods. Daws noted that the best mineralised zones may still be undrilled, making these top priorities for future drilling.
Alongside this, Estrella is pursuing a large-scale limestone project at Werumata. Daws said the goal is to define an inferred resource of 500 million tonnes and supply calcite into Indonesia as an acid neutralisation agent for nickel laterite tailings and other industrial uses.
Estrella is working with Indonesian group R.E.M. on marketing and is preparing to seek a special investment agreement from the Timor-Leste government.
