Lindian Resources Ltd executive director Zac Komur talked with Proactive about new test results confirming a significant milestone in the company’s downstream rare earths processing program at the Kangankunde Rare Earths Project in Malawi.
Komur detailed results from test work conducted by Australia’s Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), which confirmed that monazite concentrate from Kangankunde cracks cleanly under conventional sulphuric acid-based processing. The resulting product is a premium-grade, mixed rare earth carbonate (MREC) with ultra-low levels of uranium and thorium, making it non-radioactive and safer for storage, handling and transport.
Komur added that Kangankunde’s exceptional feedstock and clean downstream profile position it as a strategic supply source outside China, with a project life exceeding 300 years.
