Quantum Data Energy shares surge as company advances project-level funding plans

Shares in Quantum Data Energy PLC (LSE:MAST) rose 15% to 6.76p on Tuesday after the company announced significant progress in securing non-dilutive funding for its portfolio of flexible generation power projects.

The London-listed group said it had partnered with Sustainable Investing Solutions, led by David Short and Helen Wade, to arrange capital at the special purpose vehicle level, allowing Quantum to retain equity upside without issuing new shares.

The funding will support both the construction of development projects and the opportunistic acquisition of operational flexible generation (flexgen) assets, as part of Quantum’s target to build a portfolio exceeding 300 megawatts.

In a statement, the company said it expects to reach financial close with at least one investor in the first quarter of 2026.

The funding structure is designed to give Quantum a significant equity interest in each project, with rights to future earnings, first refusal on equity sales, and management service income.

Chief executive Pieter Krügel said: “We are delighted to work with Helen and David who are leading specialists in the sustainable energy investment industry, with an exceptional track record of success… I am as confident as they are that we will be successful in securing significant funding at project level for our growth plans.”

The company highlighted the availability of operational flexgen assets in the market, noting that an estimated 1,449 megawatts of capacity changed hands or came to market during 2024 and 2025.

Quantum sees this as an opportunity to scale its portfolio quickly and cost-effectively, with acquisitions typically generating cash from day one.
