R327 shows strong efficacy in lung infection trial

R327 shows strong efficacy in lung infection trial

Recce Pharmaceuticals CEO James Graham talked with Proactive about the company’s latest clinical and strategic developments, highlighting major progress for its novel antibiotic candidate R327.

Graham detailed new preclinical results demonstrating R327’s statistically significant efficacy in a ventilated-assisted pneumonia model developed at the Murdoch Children's Research Institute. He noted that unlike existing treatments which struggle to dissolve into lung tissue, R327 delivered a near-complete bacterial reduction. “We were statistically significantly more efficacious than that model,” he said, “so that positions us to be a whole new class of antibiotic for ventilated-assisted pneumonia applications.”

He also discussed the ability of R327 to be delivered as a fine mist directly to the lungs, where infections occur. Graham emphasized the potential of this delivery system given high mortality rates associated with ventilator-associated pneumonia.

The discussion included news of a broad patent granted in Hong Kong, covering manufacture, administration and application methods, offering exclusivity until 2041. On the clinical front, Recce’s Phase III trial in Indonesia for diabetic foot ulcer infections is progressing, with interim data expected in Q1 2026.

Graham also flagged ongoing collaborations with the U.S. Department of Defense, targeting burn wound infections and chemical countermeasures.
