OpenAI is targeting roughly 220 million paid ChatGPT subscriptions by the end of the decade, a growth trajectory that would put the artificial intelligence company on a path similar to workplace software firms like Slack and Zoom, The Information reported on Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter.
The report said the company aims to convert about 8.5% of its free users into paying customers, leaning on a suite of workplace-focused tools, including chat features and email-summary functions, to drive adoption among enterprises.
ChatGPT had about 35 million paying users as of July, according to the report, but OpenAI is seeking to eventually match the scale of consumer platforms like Netflix and Spotify, which each have around 300 million subscribers.
