Critical Resources lifts Mavis Lake footprint as drilling, metallurgy bolster lithium outlook

Critical Resources Ltd (ASX:CRR) has sharply expanded the scale of its flagship Mavis Lake Lithium Project, consolidating a dominant land position across Ontario’s premier lithium corridor after securing an additional 8,000 hectares of highly prospective ground.

The 25% expansion — lifting the district to more than 400 square kilometres — brings newly identified pegmatite trends, untested structural corridors and multiple fresh targets into the project pipeline, strengthening CRR’s strategic footing in the North American lithium supply chain.

The move deepens the project’s long-term growth runway at a time when analysts are forecasting a lithium price recovery beginning next year, driven by sustained demand from electric vehicles and energy storage. CRR says the enlarged landholding, combined with strong drilling momentum and feasibility-level metallurgical gains, reinforces Mavis Lake’s potential as a future low-cost lithium feedstock for the region’s rapidly expanding battery sector.

Rapid expansion and exploration momentum

Since acquiring Mavis Lake in 2022, CRR has transformed the project through systematic drilling and targeted acquisitions. Key milestones already include a maiden JORC Inferred Mineral Resource of 8 million tonnes (Mt) at 1.07% lithium oxide (Li₂O) and a 2024 Exploration Target of 18–29Mt at 0.8–1.2% Li₂O.

More than 58,000 metres of drilling have now been completed, with standout intercepts such as 74.4 metres at 1.18% Li₂O (including 32.9 metres at 1.81% Li₂O), 50.2 metres at 1.28% Li₂O, and multiple 30–50-metre-wide spodumene zones across the Main Zone and surrounding prospects.

More than 30 new lithium-cesium-tantalum (LCT) pegmatite occurrences have been identified to date.

Recent drilling continues to extend mineralisation well beyond the current resource envelope, while the fully permitted Tot and Gullwing prospects — both mapped with spodumene at surface — remain priority growth fronts.

Infrastructure, permitting and community support advancing

CRR highlights Ontario’s Tier-1 mining credentials, skilled workforce, and strong federal and provincial support for battery minerals as key advantages. The project benefits from immediate access to highways, rail and clean hydro power, enabling lower-emission operations and efficient logistics into Canadian and US markets.

Baseline environmental studies and ongoing stakeholder engagement are progressing, including strengthened ties with First Nations groups. An onsite meeting with Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation and local government reaffirmed strong community support for the project.

Managing director Tim Wither said the additional claims were secured at an opportune moment.

“The counter-cyclical opportunity to stake and acquire additional claims secures a dominant land position over highly prospective geology,” Wither said. “This strategic decision underpins future growth potential across the Mavis Lake Lithium Project.

“A recent on-site meeting with our First Nations partners and the Dryden municipality highlighted the strong local support for Mavis Lake and the opportunity to collaborate on the advancement of the project,” he added. “For shareholders, Mavis Lake stands as one of Ontario’s significant lithium assets, distinguished by its scale, grade and access to world-class infrastructure, positioning the project to play a key role in North America’s lithium supply chain.”

Metallurgy and downstream technology pathway

Feasibility-level metallurgical test work has delivered near-100% spodumene recovery and a 30% uplift in lithium grade, producing a clean, high-grade concentrate suitable for downstream conversion.

Adding to this is CRR’s exclusive option with the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology to evaluate six solid-state lithium-ion battery patents targeting thermal stability, scalable processing and sulphide-free solid-state electrolytes — a pathway the company sees as opening potential future licensing and integration opportunities.

Next steps

Critical Resources’ near-term focus includes updating the Mavis Lake resource with recent drill results, advancing scoping and technical studies, progressing environmental approvals and continuing engagement with North American battery-sector offtake partners.

CRR says the expanded landholding, accelerating resource growth and strong metallurgical outcomes position Mavis Lake to benefit directly from the expected lithium market rebound from 2026.
