Synertec lands Shell QGC contract for Powerhouse renewable microgrid

Synertec Corporation Ltd (ASX:SOP) has secured a new contract with Shell QGC for the rental and deployment of a Powerhouse renewable microgrid system at a coal seam gas (CSG) well site in Queensland’s Surat Basin — extending the technology’s reach among major operators in the region.

The system, scheduled for delivery in Q4 FY26, will add to several existing Powerhouse units already operating with Santos and the GLNG joint venture. Synertec said the latest agreement reinforces the system’s growing commercial traction and its ability to scale across large, remote well networks.

Zero-emission microgrid gathers momentum

Powerhouse is Synertec’s 100% renewable, islanded microgrid powered by solar and batteries and controlled by the company’s AI-driven Predictive Intelligence platform, which is undergoing global patent protection. The system has now marked five years of continuous fossil-fuel-free operation with no unplanned maintenance callouts — a key credential as operators pursue decarbonisation while preserving uptime for critical field infrastructure.

Synertec says the technology guarantees availability, offers cost advantages over diesel or hybrid setups and can be rapidly deployed and reconfigured at scale. Its combination of weather-forecasting automation, load management and remote operation is designed for industrial customers that require reliable base-load power without fossil-fuel backup.

Managing director Michael Carroll said the Shell QGC deal reflects both technical performance and a broadening customer base.

“This is another exciting development for Synertec and our Powerhouse technology. We have been working closely with Shell QGC’s team as they embark on a large-scale decarbonisation and optimisation of their operations,” Carroll said.

“We have always maintained that our repeat success with Santos and the GLNG JV paves the way for a broader deployment of Powerhouse to other operators, such as Shell QGC,” he added. “Naturally, we believe that with the Powerhouse system, Shell QGC can confidently transition a large proportion of their circa 2,800 wells to a reliable, sustainable, affordable and renewable energy solution, at scale and without delay.”

Carroll added that the domestic and international market for dependable, commercial-scale renewable microgrids continues to represent “a significant growth opportunity for Synertec”.

BOOM delivery model to underpin evaluation

The Shell QGC contract follows a build-own-operate-maintain (BOOM) structure with a flat monthly rental fee over an initial six-month trial period, enabling Shell QGC to assess performance in live conditions before considering broader deployment. The system configuration will mirror features proven in past installations, customised to Shell QGC’s operational requirements.

Synertec expects the unit to be contributing revenue in the final quarter of FY26.

With global energy producers accelerating the shift to low-emission, high-reliability power solutions for remote operations, Synertec says Powerhouse is well positioned to scale across thousands of potential sites in Australia and abroad.
