Apple slashes sales jobs amid strategic restructuring

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, XETRA:APC) has laid off dozens of employees in sales positions globally in a a rare round of layoffs at the technology giant, according to media reports.

The reductions reportedly affect account managers serving enterprise, education, and government clients, as well as staff at Apple’s briefing centers, which host product demonstrations for major customers.

A significant portion of the cuts targeted the team that works with US government agencies, including the Defense and Justice Departments. That group had previously faced challenges due to a recent 43-day federal government shutdown and cost-cutting directives from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

The company has framed the layoffs as part of a strategic reshuffling rather than broad workforce reductions. Sources close to Apple told media outlets that the restructuring reflects a broader pivot toward channeling sales through third-party resellers, allowing the company to streamline internal operations while maintaining access to institutional clients.

“To connect with even more customers, we are making some changes in our sales team that affect a small number of roles,” an Apple spokesperson said on Monday. “We are continuing to hire and those employees can apply for new roles.”

Apple shares traded up 0.6% at $277 on Tuesday morning, up almost 11% in the year to date.
