The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) will tomorrow publish its first full Monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) for October 2025, marking a shift from quarterly to monthly inflation reporting.
ABS Australian Statistician Dr David Gruen said the change will enable earlier identification of turning points in inflation and give policymakers more timely information.
The new release will feature seasonally adjusted and Trimmed Mean measures, capital city breakdowns, and a continued quarterly CPI series for comparison. The monthly CPI draws on expanded data sources, including supermarket scanner data and childcare datasets, bringing Australia into line with other G20 economies that report inflation monthly.
Financial markets are expecting inflation to edge up to 3.6% year-on-year, from 3.2% recorded at the end of the September quarter.
