The UK-based defence engineering firm, with over 15 years of expertise in blast survivability and control systems, is now developing scalable counter-UAS (Uncrewed Aerial Systems) technology aimed at both military and civilian use.
Hayes explained how their low-cost solutions—such as a 40mm grenade packed with Kevlar strands—can entangle incoming drone threats at short range, while larger guided systems can intercept high-altitude targets.
Young, a former Metropolitan Police officer and now Section 5 prohibited weapons dealer, highlighted the increasing homeland threats, citing a 43% year-on-year rise in drone-related prison incursions. He also stressed the critical need for “zero or low-collateral munitions” for use in populated areas, in line with current Home Office policy. The pair revealed ABBS has filed patents and built working prototypes, with strong interest from NATO-aligned markets.
A funding round is underway to move the system to TRL 7, with aims for deployment in both defence and critical infrastructure settings.
