Markets in a Minute: Far East Gold shines, Woodside Energy Group sinks

The ASX200 closed up on Monday, gaining 1.29% after setting a new 100-day low.

IT and industrials both had a pretty strong start to the week - nudging upwards of around 2.5 per cent - and every sector - besides energy - finished in the green.

Green

Far East Gold shot up after reporting strong assay results from new drilling at its Sua Prospect in Indonesia. One of the holes returned a high-grade interval of 8.59 grams a tonne over 35 metres, including 280 grams a tonne over 0.4 metres.

Qube Holdings was also up on confirming it's received a takeover offer from Macquarie Asset Management. The $5.20 per share proposal was described by Qube’s chair as a reflection of the strength of the company’s business, assets, and people.

Red

Woodside Energy Group shed nearly 1.5 per cent and dragged the entire energy sector into the red, despite having no news.

Sunstone Metals plunged despite increasing the mineral resource at its Bramaderos gold-copper project in Ecuador by 33 percent.
