ATOME edges closer to its Paraguay green fertiliser build

SP Angel’s read on ATOME PLC's (AIM:ATOM) latest update is straightforward: another important piece of the financing puzzle has clicked into place.

The company says the board of IDB Invest, part of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, has approved up to $200 million in project financing for Phase 1 of its green fertiliser plant at Villeta in Paraguay.

SPA notes that IDB Invest has been involved for more than two years, acting as the lead development lender and taking responsibility for shaping a bankable structure, coordinating potential financiers and managing due diligence.

The newly approved package blends senior debt with concessional finance and an LC-backed reserve facility and, taken together, could form a substantial portion of the $630 million needed for full project financing.

This step follows IDB Invest’s internal credit approval in September. SPA points out that the funding is now only subject to finalising the debt and project documentation and closing the equity package ahead of financial close.

In the broker’s view, that makes the approval a meaningful vote of confidence in the project’s maturity, bankability and wider development benefits for Paraguay and the region’s agricultural industry.

ATOME is moving the equity side forward in parallel, building the so-called equity club while assembling the senior lending syndicate for the overall $630 million package.

SP Angel argues that the company is lining up several near-term catalysts that should help de-risk the Villeta scheme further.

Meeting those milestones, the broker says, will undoubtedly help clear the market’s concerns around completing the financing and taking a final investment decision, still targeted for the fourth quarter of 2025.
