Imaging Biometrics technology adopted in trial aiming to reshape GBM treatment strategy

Imaging Biometrics Ltd (LSE:IBAI, OTCQB:IQAIF) shares rose 13% to 1.02p on Thursday after the company announced that its fractional tumour burden (FTB) mapping technology is being used in a glioblastoma (GBM) phase 2 feasibility study led by Dr Danielle Bazer at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper University.

The trial is assessing whether giving temozolomide before radiotherapy can provide an early, reliable measure of drug activity in newly diagnosed high-grade glioma.

The study is funded in part by the Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research & Information, which has backed several early-stage imaging innovations in neuro-oncology.

The aim is to see whether early objective response rates (captured before radiation begins) can act as a surrogate for outcomes later in treatment.

If validated, this could streamline early-phase GBM trials, allowing researchers to screen therapies more efficiently and tailor treatment plans more effectively.

Imaging Biometrics’ FTB mapping is designed to overcome a key limitation of conventional MRI: its difficulty in distinguishing active tumour from necrosis or treatment-related changes.

By analysing perfusion characteristics voxel by voxel, FTB maps classify tissue more precisely.

Comparing baseline and post-temozolomide images should offer insights into response patterns, particularly in MGMT-methylated tumours, which typically respond better to the drug.

“FTB mapping gives us a dynamic view of tumour behaviour,” Bazer said. Chief executive Michael Schmainda added that the company is “proud to support this trial” and welcomed the Musella Foundation’s backing.
