Shares in MedPal AI jumped 10% to 7.94p after the digital health and artificial intelligence company confirmed formal approval from the Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB) for the transfer of an NHS Pharmacy Contract from Universal Pharmacy, completing its acquisition announced in October.
The move marks MedPal AI’s first NHS contract, granting subsidiary MedPal Limited authorisation to provide regulated pharmacy services nationwide.
The approval is notable as the General Pharmaceutical Council stopped issuing new distance-selling pharmacy licences earlier this year.
Since acquiring the assets, MedPal Limited has dispensed 14,757 prescriptions in its first 10 days of operation, exceeding expectations and underlining strong early demand for its automated pharmacy model. The group has also reported robust uptake for its recently launched weight loss service, reflecting rising interest in telehealth and AI-enabled healthcare delivery.
Chief executive Jason Drummond said the contract approval validated the company’s operational capabilities and strategy to combine AI-powered wellness insights with efficient clinical fulfilment through its MedPal.clinic platform.
He added that the company’s integrated approach, blending data-driven health management with rapid access to prescriptions, positions MedPal AI strongly in the growing digital healthcare market.
