Seeing Machines Ltd (AIM:SEE, OTC:SEEMF) said its in-car safety technology is gaining momentum in China through its collaboration with automotive supplier Magna and a major German carmaker.
The AIM-listed company, which develops artificial intelligence-powered systems that track driver alertness and behaviour, said the partnership marks a “significant milestone” as Magna’s integrated mirror system.
This incorporates Seeing Machines’ driver and occupant monitoring software, reaching its first full year of scaled production in the Chinese market.
Seeing Machines’ system combines driver and occupant monitoring through a single camera, typically located behind the rear-view mirror.
The technology uses advanced computer vision and algorithms to track eye movement, head position and attention levels, detecting distraction or drowsiness in real time. When needed, the system issues alerts to help prevent accidents.
Chief executive Paul McGlone said: “The mirror-integrated DMS/OMS technology has proven itself globally, and we are proud to work alongside forward-thinking partners like Magna.
"This world-first solution has been a significant technical achievement and speaks to our shared commitment to safety innovation and to equipping automakers with the cost-effective, advanced solutions they need.”
Seeing Machines said the programme with Magna, which could eventually reach several million vehicles each year, represents its largest automotive award to date.
The company is currently working on 18 automotive programmes with 11 manufacturers worldwide, with an estimated combined lifetime value of $392 million, most of which is expected to be realised by 2028.
The partnership underscores growing global demand for driver and occupant monitoring systems as carmakers adopt technology aimed at improving road safety and meeting new regulatory standards.
