Elixir Energy Ltd (ASX:EXR, OTC:ELXPF) has secured 189 BCFe of newly certified 2C Contingent Gas Resources (100% net to EXR) in ATP2077 Block-B on the western flank of the Taroom Trough, independently verified by Sproule ERCE. This addition lifts Elixir’s total independently certified 2C resources in the Taroom Trough Basin-Centred Gas Play to ~2.8 TCFe (2,792 BCFe) — an 8% increase that highlights the scale and quality of the company’s acreage.
“The addition of this new Contingent Gas Resource is material in its own right, but when added to the company’s existing independently certified gas resources, it highlights the scale and the impact that the Taroom Trough may have on full commercialisation,” Elixir Energy managing director and CEO Stuart Nicholls said.
“Further resource upgrades are anticipated within one of our JV Blocks, in ATP2057, which is a large tenement sitting up against Shell’s primary area of investment on the western flank of the Taroom Trough.”
ATP2077 Block-B (100% Elixir) is approximately 10 kilometres from the “Taroom Trough Edge,” in a setting comparable to Shell’s primary drilling and testing area, and proximal to sediment input from the west and south-west — favourable for reservoir development. Two historical penetrations, Kinkabilla-1 (1966) and Inglestone-1 (1987), intersected the Permian section; recent log digitisation enabled petrophysical analysis of the Kianga and Back Creek Groups, confirming Permian reservoirs with associated gas charge. Using identical density assumptions, cut-offs and recovery factors to Elixir’s ATP2077 Block-A bookings, Sproule ERCE has certified the 189 BCFe for Block-B.
This updated total excludes any contingent resources from Elixir’s 50% net interest in ATP2057 (representing 20% of total net acreage), which is favourably located adjacent to Shell’s primary acreage and ATP2077 Block-B. Elixir intends to acquire ~200 km of new 2D seismic in early 2026 in ATP2057, after which it plans to pursue independent resource certification.

“The Taroom Trough has the scale to not only arrest the declining situation in the east coast domestic gas markets, but also provide the next wave of LNG feedgas required to keep Queensland’s prominent export industry going,” Nicholls said.
What’s next?
Next, under Phase 1 of the company’s strategy, Elixir will submit a Potential Commercial Area (retention) application for ATP2077 Block-B, then scope and drill Inglestone-2 — a well designed to convert resources to reserves and positioned as a potential future producer.
