C3 Metals Inc (TSX-V:CCCM, OTC:CARCF) announced that its team on the ground in Jamaica is safe and no injuries have been reported after Hurricane Melissa made landfall over Jamaica in late October.
The mineral exploration company said heavy winds and rainfall have resulted in significant debris, making multiple roads impassable to the company's project areas. As well, prepared drill pad sites and drill access trails have been damaged and will require repair.
Exploration activities at its Super Block project and Bellas Gate project in Jamaica have been temporarily suspended.
"We ceased exploration activities a few days in advance of the storm to make necessary preparations and take precautions to keep our people and equipment safe," C3 Metals CEO Dan Symons said in a statement.
"We estimate it will take approximately six to eight weeks to repair and restore necessary infrastructure to continue exploration activities."
C3 Metals noted that concurrent with infrastructure restoration work over the next six to eight weeks, the company has shifted its focus from exploration to community assistance, doing what it can to provide food, water and access to power to those most vulnerable to the storm's impacts.
The company added that its team is also assisting in clearing landslide debris to open road access and helping local community members repair damaged homes where possible.
