Nintendo powers up Switch 2 forecast ahead of crucial holiday season

Nintendo is betting big on its new console, raising its sales forecast for the Switch 2 to 19 million units for the year ending March 2026, up from 15 million previously, as excitement builds ahead of the holiday rush.

The Kyoto-based company also lifted its annual operating profit target by 16% to 370 billion yen ($2.45 billion), buoyed by stronger-than-expected demand for its hybrid home-and-handheld device, which launched in June.

So far, Nintendo has sold 10.3 million Switch 2 units, helped by major releases such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bonanza. The company hopes upcoming titles like Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Kirby Air Riders will sustain momentum through the key year-end period.

President Shuntaro Furukawa said the upcoming shopping season would be “a key proving ground” for the new console, which debuted amid trade tensions that tested Nintendo’s supply chains.

Despite a slimmer profit margin in the first half, Nintendo’s shares remain up about 40% this year.
