Orthocell completes first surgical case with Remplir™ in Hong Kong

Orthocell Ltd (ASX:OCC, OTC:ORHHF) has completed the first surgical case using its Remplir™ nerve repair device in Hong Kong and formally introduced the product to clinicians at the HKOA 45th Annual Congress.

The Hong Kong case marks the start of clinical use and commercial sales in the market, following regulatory clearance and the appointment of MontsMed as Orthocell’s exclusive in-country distributor. The company said MontsMed will focus on adoption through leading hospitals and specialist surgeons.

Orthocell views Hong Kong as strategically important to its broader Asia-Pacific rollout. In addition to its local market, Hong Kong provides a pathway into the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), a cluster of nine major cities with a combined population of about 100 million. Under the region’s Regulatory Innovation and Development of Pharmaceutical and Medical Device work plan, Hong Kong-registered devices such as Remplir may be imported by designated GBA healthcare institutions to meet urgent clinical needs.

Remplir was showcased to orthopaedic and reconstructive surgery specialists at the HKOA Congress on November 1–2, with Orthocell highlighting clinical advantages in peripheral nerve repair and the growing evidence base for improved patient outcomes.

“The completion of our first Remplir surgical case and successful launch at the Hong Kong Orthopaedic Association Annual Congress represent important progress in our deliberate and considered approach to commercialising Remplir across Asia,”Orthocell CEO and MD Paul Anderson said.

“Hong Kong’s advanced healthcare system and its role as a gateway to the Greater Bay Area present a compelling opportunity for expansion. We are pleased to be working with MontsMed to build awareness and drive adoption among leading surgeons.”

Commercial momentum in a growing global market

The Hong Kong milestones extend Orthocell’s recent commercial momentum. Initial surgeries have been completed in Singapore and the United States over the past year, and the product is now available in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the US and Hong Kong. The company expects to commence sales in Canada and Thailand in the near term, subject to local pathways.

Orthocell’s commercialisation program has accelerated since Remplir’s Australian launch in 2022, with first surgeries over the past 12 months in Singapore, the US and, most recently, Hong Kong. Near-term market entries in Canada (estimated at US$75 million) and Thailand are planned via local distributor partnerships.

The company’s Asian distributor network and regional strategy will be led by commercial director Hamish Thrum, who has extensive ANZ and APAC medical-device experience.

Orthocell holds more than A$50 million in cash and carries no debt, providing capacity to drive adoption and support revenue growth into FY26.

In the US — an estimated US$1.6 billion market — the rollout continues to progress. In-country representatives are working with distributors to secure hospital approvals, onboard surgeons and establish active accounts, with initial surgical case numbers steadily increasing.
