Markets in a Minute: Gold rebounds, ANZ and Coles dip

Good afternoon, and welcome to Proactive's Markets in a Minute wrap for the week.

In what's making headlines this Friday - gold prices picked up again to just under USD 4030 an ounce. The move came as investors responded to a U.S. Federal Reserve rate cut, as well as ongoing uncertainty surrounding the China–U.S. trade deal.

Back on Aussie soil, let's take a look at some of the stocks that made news on the ASX this week.

Green

Firefly Metals shot up this week on news it's intercepted high-grade copper and gold in what it's labelled a “major exploration breakthrough” at the Green Bay project in Canada.

Elixir Energy had a stellar week after forming a joint venture and completing drilling at Diona-1. The company is also gearing up to drill Lorelle-3 in January using a top-tier rig.

Red

ANZ Group took a hit following news of a $1.1 billion after-tax charge that will hit second-half profits. The charge stems from a mix of strategic write-downs, restructuring costs, and regulatory penalties.

Coles Group was also hit hard on its first-quarter sales update. Group sales rose nearly 4 percent to 10.96 billion dollars, led by strong supermarket growth — but liquor sales slipped just over 1 percent for the quarter.
