Green360 Technologies reaches ‘major milestone’ with Eco-Clay commercial verification

Green360 Technologies Limited (ASX:GT3) has achieved a key breakthrough in its low-carbon cement strategy, with its flagship Eco-Clay metakaolin product independently verified by the University of Melbourne as compliant with Australian Standard AS 3582.4:2022 for supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs).

The verification confirms Eco-Clay performs on par with or better than leading international metakaolins, demonstrating high reactivity, strength and consistency across key benchmarks.

Transforming waste into value

Eco-Clay is produced from tailings and settlement pond residues generated during Green360’s kaolin refining process. These by-products are calcined at around 750°C to create a high-reactivity metakaolin capable of replacing up to 40% of Portland cement in concrete — significantly reducing carbon emissions while maintaining or enhancing strength.

The result is a circular economy innovation that turns industrial waste into a high-value, sustainable building material. The company says its byproduct-based feedstock also offers a substantial cost advantage, enabling low marginal production costs and premium margins while eliminating waste storage liabilities.

Independent testing and standards compliance

Testing by the University of Melbourne’s Department of Infrastructure Engineering found Eco-Clay meets all chemical and performance criteria for Grade 1 pozzolans under both AS 3582.4 and ASTM C618 (USA).

Key results include:

  • 96% kaolinite conversion efficiency, confirming excellent thermal activation.
  • High reactivity, equal to or exceeding international benchmarks.
  • Compressive strength that meets Grade 1 SCM requirements at 3, 7 and 28 days.

Commercial-scale quantities of Eco-Clay have already been supplied to major and independent premix concrete producers for plant-based trials.

Expanding market opportunity

With the cement industry responsible for roughly 8% of global CO₂ emissions, Green360 sees Eco-Clay as a timely, scalable solution for low-carbon construction. Australia’s cement market is worth about A$3.2 billion annually, while the global shift to net-zero construction continues to accelerate under ESG mandates and green-building standards.

Traditional SCMs such as fly ash and slag are expected to become scarce as coal-fired power stations close and imported materials face higher carbon accounting. This creates a strong opening for domestic, sustainable alternatives like Eco-Clay.

“Eco-Clay represents exactly what Green360 stands for — practical circular economy innovation that creates value from waste, reduces emissions and delivers real commercial results in the building materials sector,” said executive chairman Aaron Banks. “Our Eco-Clay material meets the highest Australian and international standards, performs on par, or better, with the best metakaolins globally, and can potentially be produced at a fraction of the cost because it’s made from our own byproduct streams, right here in Australia.”

Next steps

Green360 is in advanced negotiations to secure a toll-treating facility for near-term production, with further commercial-scale trials planned across the precast and ready-mix sectors. The company is also engaging with government and industry stakeholders to support wider adoption of low-carbon construction materials.

“With having first-mover advantage and this structural cost advantage, it positions Green360 as one of the most cost-effective and environmentally responsible building material producers in the world,” Banks said.
