Altech Batteries highlights key progress and new AMPower deal in September quarter

Altech Batteries Ltd (ASX:ATC, OTC:ALTHF) reported a major step towards commercialisation over the quarter ending September 30, 2025, signing a collaboration agreement with China’s AMPower to begin selling sodium nickel chloride (SNC) batteries across Australia, Europe and the US — marking its immediate entry into the fast-growing energy-storage market.

Key highlights

  • AMPower collaboration: Agreement enables Altech to sell AMPower-manufactured SNC batteries under the Altech brand, providing instant market access in key regions.
  • Early cash flow: Strategy allows Altech to generate revenue ahead of commissioning its flagship 120-megawatt-hour (MWh) CERENERGY® project in Germany.
  • Funding progress: German government has issued preliminary approval for a €46.7 million (A$75 million) grant under the national STARK program; debt and equity partner discussions advancing with a major European bank nearing mandate.
  • Ownership consolidation: Altech increased its interest to 75% in CERENERGY® and 100% in the Silumina Anodes™ project after acquiring additional stakes from Altech Advanced Materials AG.
  • Technical milestones: CERENERGY® cells have achieved 650+ cycles with no capacity loss and up to 92% energy efficiency; next-generation R&D pack now delivers 90-kilowatt-hour (kWh) capacity — a 30% cost reduction.
  • Funding support: Final €1 million drawdown from the €2 million Bearer Bond facility with major shareholder Deutsche Balaton completed.

Altech’s entry into the SNC battery market is designed to build brand recognition and generate near-term revenue while its larger-scale CERENERGY® production facility is developed in Saxony, Germany.

Under the partnership, AMPower — a subsidiary of the US$20 billion Chilwee Group and a leading producer of Zebra-type sodium nickel chloride batteries — will manufacture uninterrupted power supply (UPS) and small-to-medium energy-storage systems to Altech specifications. Altech will oversee branding, distribution and certification for European, US and Australian markets.

The agreement gives Altech immediate access to a portfolio of fireproof, maintenance-free battery products with exceptional durability and suitability for data centres, AI infrastructure, and industrial sites where lithium-ion batteries face safety restrictions. Larger BESS systems will follow in phase two of the collaboration, targeting the household and grid-scale markets.

Iggy Tan: early market entry “a major advantage”

Altech group managing director Iggy Tan said the partnership positions the company to capitalise on surging demand for safe stationary storage solutions.

“Altech is experiencing exceptional interest in our sodium nickel chloride solid-state battery technology, especially from customers seeking safer, more reliable alternatives to lithium-ion,” Tan said. “These batteries are inherently fireproof, perform reliably in extreme temperatures and offer strong environmental credentials — making them an ideal fit for the needs of the stationary energy storage market.

“Our collaboration with AMPower enables immediate production, and our offtake customers are eager to secure supply,” he added. “With special focus on UPS as well as small and medium-size energy storage, this early market entry strategy is augmenting and not competing with the large-scale grid energy storage CERENERGY® Battery strategy.”

CERENERGY® project advancing

Altech’s 120 MWh CERENERGY® battery project continues to progress through funding and technical milestones. The company is finalising a debt mandate with a leading European bank and has secured three Letters of Intent for 100% of initial production from industrial and defence customers.

Recent prototype testing delivered strong performance results — more than 650 cycles without capacity loss and near-100% Coulombic efficiency — confirming the safety, stability and durability of its sodium nickel chloride chemistry.

Tan said the company’s focus remains on commercialising a next-generation, high-performance battery platform for the global energy transition.

“By moving quickly to meet this demand, Altech is positioning itself as a leader in what we see as the next major wave in battery storage innovation.”
