AI could be key to shorter working week, says Zoom chief

If Eric Yuan gets his way, artificial intelligence could one day give us our Fridays back.

The Zoom Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:ZOOM) founder told the TechCrunch Disrupt 2025 conference that he believes AI tools will soon be capable of taking over much of our daily workload, paving the way for a three- or four-day work week.

Yuan said Zoom’s own AI features, including a “digital twin” that can attend meetings and even speak on a user’s behalf, demonstrate how far the technology has come.

He recently used his own avatar on an investor call to show how such systems could “push the boundaries of communication.”

The company is now funnelling investment into AI-powered productivity tools such as automated email triage, smart meeting summaries and collaborative assistants for its whiteboard and document platforms.

Yuan suggested that in future, “digital twins” could even handle business negotiations before their human counterparts step in to finalise details.

“Eventually, AI will help with every product we use to get work done,” he said. “When that happens, maybe we won’t need to work five days a week anymore.”
