Medicus Pharma (NASDAQ:MDCX) CEO Raza Bokhari talked with Proactive about the company’s latest milestone in its ongoing Phase 2 clinical trial for a novel, noninvasive treatment for non-melanoma skin cancer.
Bokhari shared that Medicus Pharma has now treated its first patient outside the United States, at the Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, expanding the study into an international trial.
This follows significant progress in the US, where over 75% of patients have already been randomized in a 90-patient study across nine sites.
The treatment uses patent-protected microneedle arrays loaded with Doxorubicin to address basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer.
Bokhari noted: “We are on our way to bringing to market a novel, noninvasive treatment that we hope will reshape the way non-melanoma skin diseases are treated.”
The trial in the Middle East involves collaboration with prestigious institutions including the American Hospital Dubai, Sheikh Shakhbout Medical Center, and Burjeel Health System, aiming to enroll a total of 36 patients.
Bokhari emphasized that the Phase 2 trial builds on encouraging results from a 2021 Phase 1 safety study, where nearly half the patients showed a complete clinical response.
He also highlighted a recent Type C meeting with the FDA that clarified the pathway to registration.
