Australia’s International market analyst Greg Boland talked with Proactive about the significance of the newly announced $8.5 billion deal between Australia and the United States covering critical minerals and rare earths.
Boland outlined how this agreement marks a key step in reducing global reliance on China, which currently supplies around 70% of rare earths and handles over 90% of the world’s refining. The US Export-Import Bank has issued seven letters of interest to Australian companies, unlocking $2.2 billion in financing and a further $5 billion in potential investment.
“This deal helps ensure supply chain security between Australia and the US,” Boland said, highlighting the significant price moves among ASX-listed rare earths companies following the announcement.
The discussion also covered the wide range of applications for rare earths, from smartphones and EVs to fighter jets and MRI scans.
