Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META, ETR:FB2A, SWX:FB) is expected to eliminate about 600 employee positions in its AI unit, Axios reported on Wednesday, citing a company memo.
The job reduction will impact Facebook's AI Research Unit (FAIR) and other AI units, excluding the company’s TBD Lab.
The media outlet noted that Meta expects the reorganization to create "a more agile operation" after its AI efforts became "overly bureaucratic."
The company is inviting affected employees to apply for other roles within Meta and expects most will find another position internally, according to the memo.
In February, Meta announced plans to reduce its workforce by about 3,000 jobs.
Meta Platforms shares edged up 0.2% to $734.66 in early trading on Wednesday.
