Unilever pushes back ice cream split due to US govt shutdown

Unilever PLC (LSE:ULVR) told investors that efforts to split off the group's ice cream business are being hampered by the US government shutdown.

The FTSE 100 group said it was revising its timetable as the shutdown extends to the US financial regulator, but is still confident that the demerger will happen by the end of the calendar year.

Previously, the shares were expected to list in Amsterdam, London and New York in mid-November.

Because of the shutdown, the Securities and Exchange Commission is currently unable to approve the US registration statement required for The Magnum Ice Cream Company shares to be admitted to listing and trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

Unilever said preparatory work for the process is "on track and progressing well".

A shareholder vote on a proposed consolidation of Unilever's share capital in connection with the demerger will take place today at 8 am.
