Pearson PLC (LSE:PSON) shares rose 5% to 1,150p on Friday, defying triple-digit losses across the wider London market, after the education group posted another solid quarter and reaffirmed its full-year guidance.
The company reported a 4% rise in underlying sales for the three months to September and a 2% increase year-to-date, with chief executive Omar Abbosh calling it “another quarter of good progress”. He credited technology, data and partnerships as key growth drivers.
Virtual Learning was the standout performer, with sales jumping 17% as enrolments for the 2025/26 academic year climbed 13%. The group also opened two new schools and launched AI-powered learning tools as part of its digital expansion.
Higher Education revenue rose 2%, supported by strong demand for digital subscriptions and US courseware, while English Language Learning returned to growth thanks to higher test volumes.
Enterprise Learning & Skills grew 3% on new corporate partnerships, and Assessment & Qualifications delivered a 4% quarterly gain.
Pearson said it remains on track to meet full-year expectations, with a stronger fourth quarter anticipated. Abbosh said momentum should carry into 2026, supported by margin improvements, strong cash flow and continued demand for digital and AI-enhanced learning.
