Hollywood Bowl throwing rocks with record sales and earnings

Hollywood Bowl Group PLC (LSE:BOWL) shares rolled higher on Tuesday after record revenues and earnings were reported for the year to September.

The top line was up 8.9% at £250.8 million, the UK and Canada 10-pin bowling alley operator said in a trading update, with UK revenue up 6.4% at £212.4 million and Canada surging 32.8% to CA$70 million (£38.4m).

Group like-for-like revenues grew 0.6%, or 1.3% on a constant currency basis, with UK bowling centres LFLs up 1.3% compared to 0.8% in Canada.

EBITDA is expected to be in line with market expectations, the FTSE 250 company said, while the balance sheet finished the financial year with a net cash position of £15.2 million, after spending £15 million on a share buyback and £37 million of capex on estate expansion and centre enhancements.

The board expressed confidence in the outlook for the group in the new financial year and beyond.

CEO Stephen Burns said: "The strong cash generative nature of our business means we are well-placed to continue investing in the size and quality of our estate and to continue to enhance the customer experience through our service standards and the use of digital technology to drive returns."

The shares jumped 6.5% to 279.5p, topping the FTSE 350 leaderboard.
