JPMorgan shares rise 3% as bank commits $10bn to strategic industries

JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM, ETR:CMC) shares climbed 3% on Monday after the bank unveiled plans to invest up to $10 billion in equity and venture capital stakes across sectors, including artificial intelligence, critical minerals, and defense.

The initiative forms part of a broader $1.5 trillion “security and resiliency” strategy aimed at strengthening industries vital to U.S. and allied national security. The program expands on JPMorgan’s existing $1 trillion commitment to aerospace, energy, manufacturing, and emerging technology.

Chief executive Jamie Dimon said the plan was designed to accelerate investment in industries where the U.S. has become “too reliant on unreliable sources of critical minerals, products, and manufacturing.”

He warned that excessive regulation and political division had slowed domestic progress and called for faster, more coordinated action.

The move mirrors the U.S. government’s growing push to secure supply chains amid tensions with China.
