St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ) executive chairman John Prineas talked with Proactive about the company’s successful capital raise and its strategic implications for the Araxá rare earths–niobium project in Brazil.
Prineas discussed the recent securing of A$72.5 million via equity placements, which will fund feasibility studies and move the project toward a Final Investment Decision (FID). He noted the strength of international investor interest, particularly from institutional investors in North America and Europe. "I'm very lucky that investors... could see that potential and have backed us very, very strongly," Prineas said.
A key highlight is the strategic investment by Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd, which has increased its shareholding in St George and will become a substantial shareholder. Prineas acknowledged the significance of Hancock’s involvement, citing their active investments in rare earth ventures such as MP Materials and Lynas Corporation. He said, "I think Hancock can see something developing very well with our project as well."
The funds will also support the St George Technological Centre, to be built on-site at Araxá, with support from the Brazilian government.
