Markets in a Minute: Altech and Race soar, Elders and PYC sink

The ASX 200 shot up on Thursday by a quarter of a per cent.

Materials shone today - the sector was up 1.8 per cent, whilst financials and utilities fell behind.

Altech Batteries (ASX:ATC) nudged up after achieving its best battery cycling results to date, with its alumina-coated silicon anode retaining nearly 89% capacity after 500 cycles — a key step toward commercialising higher-density lithium-ion batteries.

Race Oncology (ASX:RAC) also had a stellar day after appointing world-leading cancer drug researcher Professor Laurence Hurley to its Scientific Advisory Board.

Red

Elders (ASX: ELD) was down today on its latest trading update. The company cited ongoing dry conditions in South Australia and Western Victoria as a key drag on performance.

PYC Therapeutics (ASX:PYC) also plunged despite reporting positive safety data for its eye disease therapy, PYC-001. The company says no safety concerns were found across all three dosing levels in its Phase 1 study.
