Lindian Resources Ltd CFO Teck Lim talked with Proactive about the company’s progress at the Kangankunde Rare Earths Project in Malawi, where early works have been completed on schedule and within budget.
Lim confirmed that main construction is set to begin in January 2026, with Lindian aiming for first rare earth concentrate production by Q4 2026. “By December 2026, we'll be producing rare earth concentrate,” he stated. The project is notable for its low cost, high grade and long life—with a 45-year mine life and expansion potential beyond 200 years.
Following a final investment decision in August, the company raised A$91.5 million at a 48% premium and signed a 15-year offtake and funding deal with Iluka Resources. Early works included a 5.5km site access road, and major contracts have been awarded, including to Mota-Engil for civil construction. Equipment has been secured from Komatsu and Sandvik to support Lindian’s low-cost, owner-operator model.
Lim said the company is now working to finalise major project agreements and appoint a design and construct contractor. Feasibility studies and expansion planning are also progressing.
Lindian is currently the only fully funded rare earths project that has reached final investment decision and is set to enter production next year.
