Mining

Proactive news summary including Gfinity, Windar Photonics, MX Oil, Rex Bionics, Alba Minerals

On a quite news day, there were some interesting developments in the world of small caps.

EMED Mining (LON:EMED), which is developing the Rio Tinto copper mine in Spain, said it had successfully raised £6.8mln from the share placing part of its £64.9mln financing announced last month.

It follows an accelerated bookbuild, which was oversubscribed and the firm said around 143.6mln shares have been conditionally placed by Canaccord Genuity and Brandon Hill at 4.75 pence per share with institutional investors.

EMED was one of a number of companies raising funds today.

Exoskeleton developer Rex Bionics (LON:RXB) said it is to raise £3.1mln to fund its next generation of high-tech walking suits for the disabled.

A subscription of 3.5mln shares at 60p, a premium to yesterday’s close, will raise £2.1mln with a further £1mln to come from selected existing investors.

Elsewhere, Investors have backed the Horse Hill project with their wallets for the second time this week.

Alba Minerals (LON:ALBA), an indirect 6.5% stakeholder in the so-called ‘Gatwick Gusher’, has today raised £355,000 from investors through the issue of new shares.

In other news, Richland Resources (LON:RLD) has finalised a settlement with Sky Associates over the sale of its Tanzanite business.

The miner, which has already received US$4.59mln from the sale, has decided not to claim the US$510,000 deferred payment due on 8 June.

In earnings news, Windar Photonics' (LON:WPHO) revenues will be lower than expected this year due to a slow start in the Asian wind turbine retrofit market.

In oil news, MX Oil (LON:MXO) has revealed changes to its Mexican partnership which see the oil junior take a bigger stake in the venture and reduce its financial burden.

The company’s interest in the Mexican venture with partner Geo Estratos will increase to 55% from 51% and, crucially, it will no longer be obligated to cover its partner’s share of costs once assets have been secured.

Meanwhile, Graphene NanoChem (LON:GRPH) has won an order for its PlatDrill Series drilling fluid worth US$28mln – which is just under two-thirds of AIM-listed group’s current market capitalisation.

Details in today’s announcement were scant, though the company did say the contract was with a national oil company

To mining and Amerisur Resources (LON:AMER) chairman Giles Clarke hailed a deal that will hook the company’s Colombian project into the oil export network as a “very major step forward”.

Civil works will begin soon, which means pipeline to the border with Ecuador should be in operation in the final quarter of the year.

In other news, Real Estate Investors (LON:REI) has been awarded the 'Listed Business of the Year' award at The West Midlands Business Masters Awards 2015.

Chief executive Paul Bassi said: " With the recent £45 million placing and conversion to REIT status, REI is well placed to continue to build on the foundations that have been put in place and to establish itself as a premier property investor within the region."

Finally, UK eSports group Gfinity (LON:GFIN) said its 2015 video game championship has had more than 30mln online views, and the competition is still only half way through.

The views were racked up in the first three months of the professional gamers tournament, which comprises 25 weekly events between March and September.
