Intel Corp (NASDAQ:INTC, ETR:INL) is expected to release technical details about its forthcoming semiconductor for laptops, known as Panther Lake, on Thursday, Reuters reported late Tuesday, citing four sources briefed on the plans.
The media outlet noted that Panther Lake chips are Intel's high-end mobile processors that are typically included in more expensive laptops.
The company has spent billions developing the high-volume product, which is made entirely using Intel’s next-generation manufacturing process called 18A, the source said.
In a note to clients on Wednesday, Wedbush analysts said the expected announcement shouldn't be surprising given expectations Panther Lake will launch late this year or early next year.
They also pointed to a recent analyst meeting and factory tour, where Intel reportedly provided details around the product.
“We view this product launch as an extremely important (and likely positive) milestone for Intel in light of both the financial implications and the likelihood it suggests manufacturing gains with the launch of Intel's 18A process," the analysts wrote.
They noted the new chips are expected to provide up to 50% performance gains, while using 30% less power.
The Wedbush analysts cautioned, though, that recent gains for Intel's stock have more than likely adjusted for any improvement in fundamentals, with much of the momentum driven by event/political speculation.
Intel shares slipped 1.3% to $36.70 in early trading on Wednesday.
