St George Mining Ltd (ASX:SGQ) executive chair John Prineas talked with Proactive about the company’s newly secured support from the Brazilian government for the establishment of the St George Technological Centre in Araxá, Brazil. This strategic move is being made in collaboration with The Federal Center for Technological Education of Minas Gerais (CEFET).
The facility will house a large-scale pilot plant to support metallurgical and downstream studies for the company’s Araxá rare earths project. The centre will also serve broader research and industrial applications, benefitting both St George and the local community.
“We've come up with what I think is a win-win solution for both St George and the local community,” said Prineas, explaining that the facility will also be made available to students and other industrial users.
Importantly, the company will retain exclusive commercialisation rights to any intellectual property developed at the centre for five years post-commissioning — with additional rights to benefit from shared developments.
Prineas also provided an update on drilling progress, noting that around 3,000 metres of a 10,000 metre program have been completed. Results from the ongoing diamond drilling campaign are expected soon. The campaign aims to both upgrade existing resources and expand the mineralised footprint.
