OpenAI turns ChatGPT into an all-in-one digital hub

OpenAI is giving ChatGPT a major upgrade, allowing users to link the chatbot directly with popular apps such as Spotify, Zillow and Expedia, a move aimed at turning the service into a single entry point for a wide range of online tasks.

Unveiled at the company’s developer event in San Francisco, the new “talking to apps” feature lets users do things like create a Spotify playlist or browse homes on Zillow without leaving ChatGPT.

Users will need to sign in to each app once before connecting. OpenAI’s chief operating officer, Brad Lightcap, said the update opened the door for developers to build new services “native to ChatGPT.”

The launch caps a busy spell for OpenAI, which recently became the world’s most valuable startup after a multibillion-dollar share sale.

The company has also partnered with chipmakers including Nvidia and AMD to expand its infrastructure, while unveiling smaller, faster AI models and a new AgentKit tool for developers.

Chief executive Sam Altman said ChatGPT now has more than 800 million weekly users and could soon evolve into a full digital operating system.
