Alibaba Group's (NYSE:BABA) mapping app Amap logged more than 360 million daily users on the first day of China’s extended National Day holiday, setting a record high, the company said.
Traditionally used for navigation, Amap has been expanding into lifestyle services, competing directly with Meituan by offering rankings of restaurants, hotels and tourist spots.
In September, it launched “Street Stars”, an AI-powered feature that rates destinations, alongside 1 billion yuan ($140 million) in coupons for ride-hailing and in-store deals.
The surge in usage coincided with the eight-day break, which combines National Day and the Mid-Autumn Festival.
China’s railway system also reported a record 23.13 million trips on the first day, nearly 8% higher than last year.
