OpenAI races past $4bn revenue but burn rate soars

OpenAI is minting cash.. and burning through it just as fast.

The ChatGPT maker booked $4.3 billion in revenue in the first half of 2025, already 16% ahead of all of last year, according to The Information.

But the growth has come at a cost: losses of $2.5 billion, driven by a reported $6.7 billion spent on research and development and the vast computing power needed to run its AI systems.

OpenAI is targeting $13 billion in revenue and $8.5 billion in cash burn for the full year, supported by a $17.5 billion cash pile.

Reports also suggest a potential $500 billion valuation in a staff share sale, while Nvidia has pledged to invest up to $100 billion.
