Janus Electric COO and founder Lex Forsyth talked with Proactive about the company’s newly announced partnership with Singapore-based EVUNI to spearhead electrification of heavy road vehicles in sub-Saharan Africa.
Forsyth explained that the agreement includes a $5.00 million strategic placement and a five-year distribution arrangement. Under the deal, Janus Electric will supply around 150 units per year, totaling more than 1,000 vehicles over five years, with scope for further expansion. Forsyth said: “What it’s demonstrating is that the technology that Janus has developed is a true powertrain for Class 8 trucks globally.”
He highlighted that EVUNI will act as the operator for the African market, managing vehicle conversions and supporting a growing network of electro-fuel stations. The collaboration is expected to serve mining, agriculture, and road haulage industries, with customers already expressing strong interest in converting diesel-powered fleets.
Forsyth added that initial conversion orders are being finalized, with the first trucks anticipated to enter the Janus ecosystem in early 2026. He emphasized the economic and environmental benefits of electrification for African operators moving goods between ports, mines, and farms.
