Markets in a Minute: Gold Stocks Lift ASX While Energy & Metals Drop

The ASX200 was up today, gaining 0.86% and crossing above its 50-day moving average. Financials and healthcare bucked the trend, whilst IT and energy lagged behind.

Green

West Wits Mining had a stellar day after signing a loan deal worth 12.5 million US dollars with Nebari Natural Resources to advance its Qala Shallows Gold Project in South Africa.

And Aurum Resources was also up after reporting more high-grade gold from its Boundiali Project in Côte d’Ivoire. Recent drilling returned standout results, including one metre at 152 grams per tonne gold, plus several other thick, high-grade intercepts.

Red

Metal Powder Works plunged after its annual report revealed a US$6.2 million loss following its reverse acquisition and ASX listing earlier this year.

And Strike Energy was also down despite higher revenue and EBITDA, after a big impairment in reserves at Walyering pushed its full-year net loss to $157 million.
