The S&P/ASX 200 edged higher today, adding 9.60 points or 0.11% to close at 8,782.60. IperionX Limited and Iluka Resources Limited led the gains, climbing 4.96% and 4.18% respectively. Over the past five sessions the benchmark has been little changed, and it remains 3.00% below its 52-week high.

Small caps also firmed, with the S&P/ASX Small Ordinaries rising 8.30 points or 0.23% to 3,680.70. The index is up just 0.06% across the last five trading days.
