American Uranium secures approval for Lo Herma resource expansion drilling

American Uranium Ltd (ASX:AMU, OTC:GTRIF) has received regulatory approval to commence its resource expansion and infill drilling campaign at the Lo Herma Project in Wyoming, one of the few near-term in-situ recovery (ISR) uranium projects in the United States.

The Land Quality Division of Wyoming’s Department of Environmental Quality has signed off on the program, with phase-one drilling expected to kick off in the fourth quarter of 2025.

Targeting growth beyond current resources

Chief executive and executive director Bruce Lane said the approval marked a major milestone in advancing Lo Herma, which currently hosts an 8.57 million-pound (Mlbs) eU₃O₈ mineral resource estimate, 32% of which is in the Indicated category.

“We are delighted that our upcoming resource expansion drilling program at Lo Herma is now approved to proceed,” Lane said.

“The first phase of the program will target expansion of the resource base with a focus on extensions of the known trends to the north of planned mine units one and two. The program is targeting an increase of the current 8.57Mlbs eU₃O₈ mineral resource estimate by converting exploration target range mineralisation for Lo Herma, which currently stands at 5.6 to 7.1 million tonnes at a grade range of 500 ppm to 700 ppm eU₃O₈,” he added.

“This work is expected to feed into an updated mineral resource estimate and scoping study in 2026, positioning us to deliver value from America’s nuclear energy revival.”

The company emphasised that the exploration target remains conceptual, with further drilling required to confirm resources.

Program details

The drilling permit allows for up to 121 holes totalling about 37,500 metres.

The program has two main objectives:

  • Step-out drilling to the north of mine units one and two, aimed at expanding the overall resource base.
  • Infill drilling to upgrade Inferred resources to Indicated or Measured categories, boosting confidence in mine planning and development.

These activities are designed to support the transition of Lo Herma from exploration into development, with results feeding into a resource update and future scoping study.

Building on recent progress

The approval follows American Uranium’s announcement last week that it will conduct hydrogeological testing alongside resource expansion drilling. Together, these initiatives are intended to de-risk the ISR development pathway and advance Lo Herma as part of the broader push to revive domestic uranium mining and nuclear energy production in the US.

With uranium prices buoyed by strong demand forecasts and policy momentum in favour of nuclear energy, AMU is positioning Lo Herma to become a strategically important domestic source of supply.
