Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD) announced on Monday that it will invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI.
The two companies said the strategic partnership will enable OpenAI to build and deploy at least 10 gigawatts of artificial intelligence (AI) data centers, with NVIDIA’s Graphics Processing Unit (GPUs) powering OpenAI’s next-generation AI infrastructure.
Nvidia noted its investment will be made progressively as each gigawatt is deployed.
“Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future, and we will utilize what we’re building with NVIDIA to both create new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses with them at scale,” OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said in a statement.
The partnership details are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, with the first gigawatt of NVIDIA systems expected to be deployed in the second half of 2026 on the NVIDIA Vera Rubin platform, according to the companies.
Nvidia had previously invested in OpenAI in a $6.6 billion funding round in October 2024.
Nvidia’s announcement comes just days after the company said it will invest $5 billion into chipmaker Intel.
Nvidia shares gained nearly 4% to $183.44 in Monday afternoon trading.
