Samsung Electronics (KRX:005930) shares rose 4% in late trading on Monday, reaching their highest level since August 2024 after reports that its advanced high-bandwidth memory had passed Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA, ETR:NVD) qualification tests.
According to the Korea Economic Daily, Samsung’s 12-layer HBM3E chips cleared approval for use in Nvidia’s artificial intelligence accelerators, a breakthrough that positions the South Korean group to compete with rival SK Hynix in premium memory products.
The gain extends a rally that has lifted Samsung shares about 20% this month, fuelled by expectations of shortages in commodity memory next year.
